High Performance Teams - The Issues:
The purpose of teamwork is to accomplish tasks more effectively with a breadth of experience and
diverse skills that teams members can bring to bear on goals.
Standing teams can be effective on routine tasks, especially when the boundaries are clear.
High performance teams (HPT) are unique in purpose, leadership, communication, capacity, processes, service, and identity.
1) Purpose: HPTs can accomplish tasks with minimal guidance and management. They are designed to be flexible and innovative in solutions.
2) Leadership: HPT leadership must be experienced and competent in working with the team effectively. Members are not hampered in providing feedback and solutions, but also trust, respect, and accept leadership.
3) Communications are smooth, open, and constant. Ideas are shared and evaluated. All members know and accept their roles and take responsibility to provide input based on what each brings to the team.
4) HTPs have the potential and capacity to address and solve atypical problems and are able to see beyond the known and accepted. They are innovative and creative in getting the job done.
5) Team processes are created and established for effective communications and efficiency in such a manner that they facilitate problem solving and follow through.
6) HPTs serve the greater good of the organization. They are not self-serving and are maintained only as long as needed by the organization.
7) Identity and membership in a HTP holds special meaning and creates essential motivation for team members.
